The Housing Market

We have not commented on the housing market lately, and the data have continued to be mixed with regard to new home sales, as well as existing sales.

This morning some disappointing data was released which indicates the recovery in housing is tepid at best, slumping again at worst.  Existing home sales dropped again for the third month in a row.

High unemployment and continued tough lending standards appear to be discouraging buyers.  And, the first time home buyers credit, which was extended, is not making a difference.

We continue to maintain that the  housing market, as it relates to employment and consumer confidence, is an important indicator to monitor for the direction of the overall economy and the markets in general.
