January Case-Shiller Home Price Data Shows a Stalled Recovery

The January year-over-year 10 major metropolitan number came in flat for the first time in three years, but the 20 city index had a y/y decline of 0.7.   The month-over-month numbers declined for the fourth month in a row with the 10 city index down 0.2 and the 20 city index down 0.7.   However, the seasonally adjusted 20 city index rose 0.3.

While new home sales fell 11.2% in January and 2.2% in February, .  Inventories remain very high though, and the housing recovery continues to drag on.
