Summertime snooze or blues

The past few summers have been a time of tumultuous trading and market declines.  The summer of 2008 was particularly volatile as the current credit crisis began to unfold in a dramatic fashion.  The big question of course is what direction the market will take this summer.

The summer of 2009 may be a period of consolidation and waiting (read snooze), as the markets analyze the persistent stream of corporate and economic data, and try to ascertain whether the recession is coming to an end, or if we will roll over and experience a deepening of the current downturn.

It is difficult to feel confident in making a big bet on the direction of the equity market.   We would keep some powder dry and continue to review the economic data points as they come in.
