in Tribute,United States of America

In honor and remembrance of our outstanding Military, Crossvault would like to pay tribute to the three soldiers who have most recently lost their lives serving our country.  All died heroes.  The name of the most recent soldier killed in action by enemy fire, has yet to be released.

The slain serviceman is the third American soldier to have been killed in Iraq since U.S. troops withdrew from the country in 2011 following a nearly decade long occupation. He is the first to die from enemy fire, however, while assigned to an advise-and-assist mission and positioned far from the front-line.

Marine Staff Sgt. Louis F. Cardin, from Temecula, Calif., died March 21 when Islamic State rockets hit his unit in an outpost in the town of Makhmour, 70 miles southeast of Mosul, according to the Pentagon.

Master Sgt. Joshua Wheeler, member of a U.S. Army special forces unit, was killed by Islamic State forces last October during a rescue mission that freed hostages held by Islamic State.”
