Michael Yon has a up about his recent trip to the Netherlands to participate in the 65th anniversary of the Allied liberation of Holland from Nazi occupation.  Michael is an independent writer who has had multiple embeds with American and British forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He is currently working from Afghanistan, and he was invited by James “Maggie” Megellas to come to the Netherlands for the ceremonies.  “Maggie” is 92 years old, and is the most decorated officer in the 82nd Airborne.  General Petraeus was also able to attend.

Margraten Cemetery is the only resting place in the Netherlands for U.S. military.  There are 8301 graves, and every grave has been adopted by a Dutch family.

Michael, who is ex-military, is a terrific source for what is really going on in Afghanistan.  If you have time to read some other dispatches, I recommend his dispatch about the .  The photographs are amazing.
